Seraya tersenyum, Syahri memohon maaf dan langsung pergi meninggalkan Kantor Kementerian Dalam Negeri melalui pintu belakang. Sementara, Maryoto sempat kebingungan dengan sikap Syahri.

Maryoto mengatakan, meskipun Syahri tersangkut kasus hukum, ia sebagai pengganti Syahri akan berusaha mengembalikan kepercayaan masyarakat Tulungagung. Ia menegaskan program-program yang telah dirancang bersama Syahri akan tetap dilaksanakan.

"Memang kami dulu, pasangan Sahto yang pada saat itu ada satu persoalan OTT. Jadi, sebagai wakil, tetap akan memperjuangan, memberikan sesuatu kepercayaan kepada masyarakat bahwa program Sahto sangat peduli pada masyarakat," kata Maryoto.

Untuk diketahui, Syahri ditangkap dan ditetapkan sebagai tersangka oleh KPK, pada Juni 2018. Ia menjadi tersangka kasus dugaan koroupsi proyek infrastruktur.

Dalam Pilkada 2018, Syahri yang berpasangan dengan Maryoto Birowo unggul dengan raihan 355.966 suara atas pasangan nomor urut 1 Margiono-Eko Prisdianto yang mendapat 238.996 suara.
